Thomas Hart, Age 28

Thomas was the son of John and Sarah Hart of The Finger, Dawley. According to the 1901 census the families address was 85 Finger Terrace, Dawley and that John was working as a miner whilst his son Thomas was aged 14.

Thomas was a pre -war regular soldier having served a total of 10 years, 3 at Aldershot and then 7 on the Reserve list, with the outbreak of war he was called up as a reservist and left a wife and child in Yorkshire, where he lived after marrying.

Thomas was quite an early casualty being killed in action on October 26th 1914, a memorial service was held for Thomas on the 29th August 1916 at the Dawley Parish Church.

His body was never found and his name is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres in Belgium on Panel 11
